Acumen Distribution Ltd has taken delivery of 17 new DAF 4x2 tractor units as part of its ongoing investment strategy and expansion plans. Acquired through Widnes based Riverside Truck Rental, the new tractor units will be used for Acumen's growing customer base which now includes inbound automotive parts, finished vehicle deliveries, kerbside recycling collections, the transport of gases and chemicals and healthcare and retail logistics.
Acquired on a full maintenance contract hire agreement, the DAF FT XF105 410 4x2 tractor units have been chosen for their reliability, low operating costs and fuel efficiency. As the tractor unit is powered by a DAF 12.9-litre diesel engine, which is Euro 5 compliant, it is entitled to a Reduced Pollution Certificate and therefore lower VED throughout its life.
Managing Director, Chris Doughty says, "We have been pleased with the DAF XF105 trucks purchased last year, which have proved reliable and delivered good fuel economy. As we have taken these new vehicles on a three-year R&M operating lease, we are able to have good visibility of our costs throughout their time with my company."
With drivers spending several nights a week in the cab, the company has opted for the DAF Space cab. As well as ample storage space for personal gear, the cab offers plenty of headroom and good cross cab access. A seat-belted and air-suspended driver seat with armrests ensures comfort and safety and the wrap-around dashboard provides critical information instantly and easily with minimum distraction.
The enlargement of Acumen's fleet forms part of an overall expansion by the company following the winning of a number of new major accounts in industries ranging from car accessories to gas and chemical deliveries. The new DAF trucks underline Acumen's continuing investment in its fleet. The company now operates an extensive range of equipment including specialist car transporters, articulated vehicles and curtain sided rigids & trailers.
