B & B Attachments solves handling issue for Cameron

31 October 2007

When flow equipment company, Cameron, needed to save space at its site in Aberdeen by moving hundreds of large steel pipes amassed on the ground and storing them in tubular racking, it was concerned that the pipes, when moved by a sideloader truck, would roll down the forks causing damage to the racking. Turning to B&B Attachments for a solution to the problem, the company was able to provide a load stabiliser to suit the diameters of the pipes and a pivoting head to accommodate the tapered pipes. B&B Attachments, the exclusive distributor in the UK and Ireland for Kaup, Europe's leading manufacturer of forklift attachments, worked with Kaup to devise an attachment that would meet Cameron's specific requirements. The attachment needed to be able to stabilise a range of steel pipes measuring up to 6000 mm in length, with diameters ranging from 105 to 400mm and weighing up to 1500 kg. As many of the pipes are typically heavy at one end, the attachment also required a pivotal head, this aloud the rubber stabiliser pad to adjust to hold the loads safely. Cameron is finding the Kaup 4T 129ST indispensable for storing its wide range of tubular steel pipes. It has not only helped save time and increased efficiency but has also improved health and safety by ensuring that the pipes are handled safely and securely. "We were unable to safely store the tubulars on racking and therefore they were stockpiled on ground which used up valuable storage space," said Alex Stephen, Central Service Manager at Cameron in Aberdeen. "In addition to saving space the combination of the tubular racking, sideloader and attachment has also reduced the time needed to retrieve tubular items from storage as access is now very simple." Cameron is a leading provider of flow equipment products, systems and services to worldwide oil, gas and process industries. Leveraging its global manufacturing, sales and service network, Cameron's 10 operating divisions work with drilling contractors, oil & gas producers, pipeline operators, refiners and other process owners to control, direct, adjust, process, measure and compress pressures and flows. The company generates annual bookings in excess of $4 billion with more than 12,500 employees and is headquartered in Houston, Texas. Established for over 25 years, B&B Attachments is the UK and Ireland's leading independent supplier of forklift truck attachments and masts.
