Import Services tees off with Srixon and saves five days in its supply chain

Import Services has announced a major new partnership with global golf brand Srixon Sports Europe, reinforcing the premium logistics provider's expansion into the sports and leisure markets.
Srixon is a world leader in designing and manufacturing golf balls, golf equipment and accessories. And by moving logistics operations to Southampton, Import Services' portcentric solution will shorten Srixon's supply chain by five working days and improve cash flow by holding stock under bond until distributed throughout the UK and Europe.
"We wanted to streamline and enhance the visibility of our supply chain from production to customer and remove the complexity of inland distribution centres which had incurred unnecessary cost," explained Julian Palmer, finance director at Srixon.
"To achieve this we selected Import Services, which has three distribution centres within shunting distance of Southampton container port; the first major container port of call for vessels carrying UK and north European cargo from the Far East."
An innovative logistics company, Import Services specialises in web enabled systems and skilled operations involving high volume pick/pack for the retail market.
These services have been developed over 25 years serving the UK toy and gift industry and now Srixon are to benefit from this experience.
Portcentric is the distribution to an end recipient straight from the port. A distribution model which is fast becoming the smart option as it offers impressive cost and time savings as well as attractive green credentials.
"We have developed portcentric distribution successfully for our clients such as Flair, Carte Blanche and Hallmark," said Mike Thomas, client services director of Import Services.
"We are keen to provide the benefits of the port-based model to Srixon in this great new partnership. Our clients demand swift movement of their products to market and retail trends also show smaller volume orders are required in store more frequently. The savings gained from this method of distribution simply outperforms traditional models of moving goods inland to distribution centres," added Mike.
Srixon is the leading sports brand of SRI Sports of Japan which is listed on the Tokyo Stock Exchange and a subsidiary of Sumitomo Rubber Industries, a world class conglomerate and owner of Dunlop tyres. Srixon has recently agreed to acquire the Cleveland golf brand from Quicksilver.
