Courier and haulage exchange operator Transport Exchange Group increase loads by 50 percent

2010 Set to be the ‘Year of the Exchange’

The Transport Exchange Group, the UK’s largest freight exchange operating both the Courier and Haulage Exchanges has ended the year on an all time high with a staggering increase of 50% in the total number of loads posted in December ’09 as compared with December ’08.

Based on the same period last year, van loads were up by 45% and haulage by an incredible 82% setting a strong benchmark for 2010.

Transactions completed through the exchange are also increasing amongst the 2000+ member companies.

Indeed the Group has been reporting double digit growth month on month over the past six months as the benefits of utilising a freight exchange have become more widely recognised by operators and owner drivers across the UK.

There is no doubt too that the economic conditions have encouraged more haulage and courier companies to use the exchange to cover their loads.

By using a freight exchange both operators and owner drivers have the ability to work together and share the cost burden of rising fuel prices, congestion charges, tolls and complying with onerous legislation all of which have taken their toll on the transport industry in recent years.

Lyall Cresswell, Managing Director, Transport Exchange Group believes these latest figures are an encouraging sign for the forthcoming year but is by no means complacent and is planning a number of new product launches for the forthcoming year.

He commented: "The fact that we have enjoyed consistent growth in the second half of last year clearly demonstrates that using a neutral exchange mechanism such as ours is paying dividends through not only providing better utilisation of vehicles but also by enabling our member companies to increase their own offering to their customers and in so doing improve their bottom line.

"It is a formula for success however we recognise that we ourselves need to continue to deliver a quality service that is unmatched in the industry to stay ahead of the game.

"One of our major strengths is the fact that we operate a secure trading platform through our stringent accreditation process which provides our member companies with the comfort that they are operating in a secure environment which encourages member to member collaboration.

"Furthermore, the fact that as we enter 2010 – the year of our tenth anniversary – in such a strong position provides an excellent foundation on which to build and we firmly believe that this could be ‘the year of the exchange’.

The Transport Exchange Group, this year celebrates a decade in business in 2010, has more than 2000 member companies who use the company’s secure, flexible, visible, real-time services every day to maximise the profitability of their supply chains.
