In addition, over 400,000 retail customers regularly visit the company’s retail outlets for DIY parts, car care products and accessories.
The company expanded recently adding a brand new National Distribution Centre to its portfolio and prides itself on offering customers “the ultimate parts buying experience: Any make, any model. The right products, at the right prices – first time, every time.”
Euro Car Parts Ltd Fleet Manager, Daniel McKeown originally contacted lifting equipment manufacturer Penny Hydraulics back in 2014 as the company were looking for lifting equipment to lift large garage oil barrels quickly and safely in and out of their Peugeot Expert van fleet. Following consultation with the Penny Hydraulics team, a hydraulic loading platform designed specifically for lifting oil barrels was specified. The LoadLift 250 is a unique, lightweight and compact lifting platform for loading vans. The folding action of the lift means it can be stowed without obstructing access.
The hydraulic lift comes with a low level style platform 600mm by 554mm in size, with 3 fixed toes for ease of loading the barrels on and off the platform. A stowage bracket with tie downs and steady for the top of the barrel is part of the design, as well as a cover that fits over the lift when it when it is stowed to help keep the lift in top condition. The low product weight of approximately 100kg ensures there is minimum impact on the vehicle payload. The Loadlift 250 lifts up to 250kg in weight which is more than enough to handle the barrels and it is hydraulically powered for a smooth and safe operation. Further safety features include built in overload protection which stops the operator being able to lift more than the rated capacity of the lift. Wander lead controls are incorporated into the design and the compact specification maximises usable floor space within the vans. All lifts are fitted just inside the rear doors of the fleet and installation was carried out at the customers’ preferred locations throughout the UK.
In 2016, the specification has changed. The new fleet vehicles are Peugeot Boxers and installations are all next to the side door opposed to the rear door. Over 75 lifts have been installed to date, with a further 10 units currently on order.
The latest statistics from the Health & Safety Executive expose yet again the need to avoid manual handling and give more credence to calls for wider use of vehicle mounted cranes and hydraulic loading platforms. Responsible organisations such as Euro Car Parts Ltd demonstrate duty of care to their employees by simply and effectively reducing the risk of manual handling injuries by eliminating the need for manual handling. This is achieved by changing the processes involved and providing their employees with suitable load handling equipment. Daniel comments “we were able to nail down the lift specification efficiently. The quality of the lifts is brilliant and they are already helping us to work more safely and productively.”
Penny Hydraulics Ltd has been designing and manufacturing bespoke lifting solutions since 1978. In this time, the company has developed a wide range of award winning vehicle mounted lifting equipment, much of which was the result of direct consultation with customers.
