Functionality, international support and price performance made the difference for Belgian manufacturer of gearboxes for wind turbines
RedPrairie Corporation, a productivity software provider, has announced that Hansen Transmissions International NV has chosen the RedPrairie Warehouse Management System (WMS) after a comprehensive selection process.
The Belgian producer of gearboxes for wind turbines starts with the implementation of the WMS to support its logistics processes in its new production site in Tianjin, China. Sites in Coimbatore, India and Lommel, Belgium will follow.
Hansen Transmissions International is a worldwide designer, manufacturer and supplier of gearboxes for wind turbines and other industrial applications. To support activities in their new facilities in China and India Hansen needed a new WMS.
"We have long used a custom-made logistics system," said Marnix Maes, Corporate IT Director at Hansen Transmissions. "For support, we are highly dependent on internal knowledge. That certainly gives our overseas sites continuity risks. We want to manage these risks by centralizing our IT and standardizing our WMS."
After a competitive selection processes including workshops, reference visits, evaluation of technical architecture and the continuity of suppliers Hansen opted for the RedPrairie solution. Maes said, "RedPrairie offered us the most functionality in a standard configuration. The company scored best on the 40 functional requirements we proposed. The quality and knowledge of the RedPrairie consultants also played an important role. RedPrairie is further distinguished by offering the best price/performance ratio."
Hansen Transmissions and RedPrairie start implementation at the new production facility in China. This will serve as a template for the rollout to the other locations. "With the new system we are able to achieve a central IT strategy," says Maes. "That makes us more flexible and reduces risk. With the new system we can continue to optimise our processes and reduce unnecessary stock. That translates into lower costs."
"RedPrairie is very fortunate to work on projects like these" says Martin Hiscox, President & Managing Director, RedPrairie International. "We look forward to delivering results at all Hansen Transmission sites and helping them to improve efficiency."
