Marshall Aerospace is one of Europe's leading privately-owned aerospace companies with extensive experience in the conversion, modification and maintenance of military, corporate and civil aircraft. They have recently selected the Atlanta 8000 Series Handheld terminal by Belgravium to facilitate real time order picking from their main warehouse stores department in Cambridge, England.
Approaching 80 years in aircraft engineering, Marshall Aerospace is one of Europe's leading privately-owned aerospace companies with all the capabilities of an aircraft manufacturer. Firmly backed up by a dedicated team of over 1,750 highly trained personnel they provide design, manufacture, test and certification, and provide logistical support. Based on its 800 acre site since 1937, Marshall Aerospace also owns and operates from its own locally established airport in Cambridge, England.
As the UK Designated Company for the RAF C-130 Hercules since 1966, and Sister Design Authority since 1988, Marshall has been able to win MOD engineering support contracts that have resulted in a continuous through-life association with Lockheed Martin and the C-130K Hercules. This has included complex fuselage-stretch production and major repair, modification and upgrades work for RAF and export customers. This transatlantic partnership also involves aircraft modification and support contracts for the RAF fleet of TriStar tanker/transports as well as a close working relationship on the next-generation Hercules, the C-130J programme. Both the Hercules and TriStar remain in front-line RAF service and Marshall continues to provide full engineering support with major modification and upgrade contracts currently underway
In order to continue supporting their transatlantic partnership Marshall have recently decided to invest in converting their picking operation at their Cambridge facility into a real time RF system. Their requirement was for a portable barcode solution that would provide them a real time view of their current warehouse picking system. Marshalls currently pick the small components required for manufacture into small plastic bags via the use of a paper picking system, this proved to be not only time consuming, but also made the tracking of the goods more difficult. Realising the benefits that a RF solution could offer, Marshalls worked together with Belgravium to develop a system utilising the Atlanta 8000 series combined with barcode printer. The Atlanta handheld was selected as perfect fit for the robust environment Marshall operate within and was viewed as a particularly ergonomic and user friendly terminal. The Atlanta facilitates the picking operation which in turn links with a barcode printer to print labels that are attached to the picked item. The system now provides Marshalls with a more streamlined picking process which has proved to be a lot more efficient and cost effective. The system has been particularly well received with future plans to expand the system into additional areas of the Marshalls
