Legrand has launched a new range of P17 Tempra Pro industrial plugs and sockets with new features that include a patented quick open/close mechanism and a dual angle mounting position for surface mounting sockets.
The new range includes 16amp and 32amp straight plugs, mobile sockets, panel mounting sockets and surface mounting sockets which are available in both IP44 and IP66/67 rated versions. All products in the revised range are now fabricated using strong and durable polyamide 6, which offers excellent heat resistance and ensures the range is suitable for even the harshest of industrial environments.
Legrand has redesigned the opening/closing system on the range’s mobile plugs and sockets, making them quick and easy to open and close securely. The units open by simply turning the two parts of the product in opposite directions and are unlocked by pressing the recessed release mechanism with a screwdriver.
An easy grip section has also been included on the body of all mobile products within the range for safety and ease of handling. A new captive cable grip has been designed with an anti-vibration system to ensure that the cable is permanently held in place.
The new P17 Tempra Pro range makes cable stripping simple with markings on the terminals which make it easier to identify the required length of cable. Meanwhile, captive screws ensure quick and easy installation with just one captive screw per connection terminal.
The surface mounting sockets now offer a choice of 50 or 250 mounting positions in a single unit thanks to a cleverly designed invertible front section. The option to select a 50 angle is ideal for environments where space is limited. The unit has been designed to allow easy removal of active parts for ease of wiring and simple selection of socket angle.
The P17 Tempra Pro surface mounting sockets also now include four threaded and sealed cable entries at the top and the bottom of each unit and, for ease of maintenance, the new models feature fixing centres that are identical to the previous generation products, making replacement quick and simple.
For the IP66/67 products other safety improvements include engraved position markings on the ring cover so that end users can verify instantly whether the P17 Tempra Pro unit is in the open or closed position.
Comments Isabelle Paulme Legrand’s marketing manager for its industrial and power protection ranges: “The original P17 Tempra range was filled with features that ensured easy installation, safe use and maximum service life for both the unit itself and the equipment to which it supplied power.
“Our investment in developing the new P17 Tempra Pro range has made these products even more robust, safer and easier to use than ever. Attention to detail, such as the anti-corrosion treated screws and stainless steel springs for socket covers, ensures that the units can withstand demanding environments and innovative design ideas, such as the dual mounting position and the single captive screw per connection terminal, maximise flexibility and minimise installation times.”
Ideal for use in commercial and industrial environments, including food processing facilities and transport infrastructure, all products in the range comply with BS EN 60309-1 and -2 standards. Further details on how to select the right industrial plug and socket for an installation can be found in Legrand’s CPD ‘Specification guide to industrial plugs and sockets’.
