Manbat is the UK’s largest battery distributor and it has a formidable reputation for supplying high-quality batteries and first-class customer service, particularly in the automotive, commercial vehicle and leisure sectors. Its presence in the industrial sector is also strong and it has been the primary UK distributor of the US Battery range for almost ten years.
However, in a recent development, Manbat has acquired Bristol-based industrial battery specialist Compass Batteries and this acquisition will pave the way for Manbat to substantially grow its market share in the industrial battery sector.
The industrial battery market is broadly split into two halves, with machinery such as general-purpose scissor lifts on one side and heavier lifts and forklifts on the other. The smaller machines will generally use multiple six-volt ‘traction mono-bloc’ batteries, which range from 200 – 400 amp/h in capacity. However, when used for the larger lifts or for forklift applications, the batteries are the full ‘traction’ type, which usually come in two-volt multiples and can be built up to the size required. Full traction batteries are available in either fully sealed maintenance-free or semi-sealed easy-maintenance formats and have substantially deeper capacities than traction mono-blocs.
Myles Pemberton, Manbat’s marketing manager said: "To date, the success of Compass Batteries has been built on its first-class service to businesses in the Bristol area. It has developed to be able to offer its customers a specialist ‘on-site’ proposition that provides them with sound battery advice, a wide choice of power storage products and a single source for battery installation, maintenance and repair. Now that Compass has come under the wing of such a strong parent company, the new entity which will be known as Manbat Industrial, is set to go from strength to strength."
Using the local battery specialism that Compass Batteries has used so successfully as a model, Manbat is in a powerful position to role out the formula on a national basis. Although this plan will not be the work of a moment, the ability to grow by offering businesses practical solutions to real life problems, has a proven track record and will deliver the growth to fulfil the undoubted potential.
As an independent battery specialist with strong links to a number of battery manufacturers and with key brands in its portfolio, Manbat Industrial is in the position to supply the product that is most suitable for any particular application. It is also able to survey, and if necessary repair, any make of battery, therefore ensuring its customers endure the minimum possible machinery downtime.
In the pursuit of environmental sustainability, waste management is a hot topic for every business and battery waste management is another service that Manbat Industrial can provide. Its mobile service procedure allows it to remove and dispose of the potential harmful waste products in accordance with industry ‘best-practice’ and the legislated EU environmental policies.
As the sole distributor of Lucas batteries in the UK and Eire, Manbat is following its development plan and introducing the famous brand into markets beyond the automotive and commercial sectors that it is traditionally associated with. Part of this strategy is the launch of the Lucas Traction XC range into the industrial sector.
Lucas Traction batteries are engineered to provide an extremely high level of performance under deep discharge and heavy duty cycling conditions, which is the norm in the access/work platform sectors. Employing fortified plate construction; Lucas Traction XC batteries provide a high peak capacity and increased initial capacity, while still returning an enhanced ability to recharge, which is particularly suitable for machines such as the POP-UP scissor lift.
In addition to the batteries themselves, Manbat Industrial also supplies power storage accessories such as chargers and ‘auto-fill’ automated distilled water top-up systems, which prove invaluable in busy warehouse environments.
