Montracon – investing again

Montracon has this week lifted the wraps on its second major plant investment in two years. Its a £5m programme focused entirely on keeping pace with rising demands on its dedicated reefer factory at Market Weighton.

The work, now nearing completion, will boost capacity by an initial 50%, with the opportunity to move to 100% – 1350 units per annum. Parallel benefits include improvements in build efficiency, build flexibility and delivery lead times plus the facility to expand the scope of 'standard' models covered by the company's ex stock, immediate availability programme.

Key to the changes has been a 25% increase in production area at Market Weighton, the expansion providing the extra space needed to optimise factory layout and raw material flows through the plant, the latter involving the construction of new materials stores.

Changes at the plant have also been taken as the opportunity to relocate the repair and refurb centre to existing, tailor made premises just a few miles away, at Wilberfoss. The new centre, on a seven acre site, includes a fully stocked parts warehouse and an eight bay service/repair shop. Shot blasting and full paint services are due on stream early in 2009.

Longer term, the centre intends to expand its services to include MoT work, the fitting of hook loader equipment and tipping gear, trailer conversions and truck servicing.
