From this September, new European Union legislation will come into force making it mandatory for all HGV drivers to obtain a Driver CPC (Certificate of Professional Competence) by 2014.
To ensure its compliance, Norbert Dentressangle is taking steps to design and implement its own in-house training programme. The training will be accredited by the Joint Approvals Unit for Periodic Training (JAUPT) and will mean that all new and existing drivers meet the periodic training requirements to ensure that their CPC remains current.
The Learning & Development facility will become the central location for coordination of the training programme, which will then be rolled out across the business. Chris Grey, the new Operational Training Manager, will be responsible for organising this activity and ensuring that all the drivers at Norbert Dentressangle Logistics UK receive the required amount of training.
The bespoke training programme will also link in with Norbert Dentressangle’s Safe Driving Plan. Launched nearly 20 years ago, the Plan was introduced in response to the Group’s commitment to road safety and aims to reinforce to its drivers the importance of ‘defensive’ driving techniques such as vigilance and anticipation.
Chris Dolby, Norbert Dentressangle Learning & Development Manager says, "The in-house training is designed to confirm and expand on the existing knowledge and skills of each driver. Delivered in conjunction with our Safe Driving Plan, we can be confident that our drivers fulfil CPC requirements and continue to be safe, courteous and fuel-efficient drivers."
