As Europe’s leading heating technology manufacturer, Vaillant returned to Conveyor Systems Ltd to re-configure and relocate one of three existing CSL packaging conveyor lines, modifying PLC software to handle a new product introduced to the range.
The fully automatic heavy duty system was designed to transport a new central heating boiler on a polystyrene base to an ergonomic position that facilitates quick and safe packing in an 875mm high cardboard sleeve, prior to banding.
Product is transferred down an inclined conveyor on to a low level gravity conveyor to provide the optimum working height for applying packaging materials as required. Once packed the load is transported on powered roller conveyor and singulated by means of an automatic stop, indexing product feed to two inline banders to secure the load. On exiting the bander, product is accumulated at the end of the line to be removed and palletised by means of a vacuum lifter.
CSL designed and installed the whole system, including mechanically repositioning of existing equipment and revamping of electrical wiring and controls. Working closely with Vaillant, the project was completed over a weekend to ensure minimum disruption to ongoing production.
Vaillant’s Production Engineering reported, "The packaging system is more than capable of handling the 55kg boilers and providing a throughput well above our requirement, operating efficiently and reliably. Conveyor Systems were very accommodating and worked very closely with the Vaillant team to ensure that the installation and commissioning was achieved with in a very tight window and we achieved our goal!"
