Palletforce celebrated its most successful Christmas yet, with its new ARC tracking system helping the firm and its 90 members handle record volumes.
Festive pallet numbers were up by 6 per cent on last year and during the first week in December the company handled a record 70,000 pallets.
The unprecedented numbers and peak volumes are being managed successfully thanks to the company’s investment in its bespoke Alliance tracking software and the recently-introduced ARC (Arrived, Recorded, Confirmed) system.
Offering significant operational advantages to members, ARC works like an air traffic control system, providing a live summary of the entire network. It offers complete visibility of vehicle movements allowing Palletforce to dynamically plan the evening operations with impressive efficiency. ARC allows members to plan better, saving time and ultimately reducing costs.
In addition, the company’s range of consignment notification options, including email, SMS and even Twitter direct messages, allow members to offer the widest range of options for ‘out for delivery’ and ‘delivered’ events.
“The development of this enhanced, market-leading software has been crucial in taking the network to the next level in terms of reliability and efficiency,” explained Palletforce IT director Dean Hughes.
“Members and customers now have far greater visibility of goods throughout the process, and the information they need to track their consignments is at their fingertips whenever they need it.”
Palletforce’s award-winning 24-hour logistics operation is set for expansion with a £50m SuperHub entering phase two of its construction at the company’s Burton upon Trent base. The pioneering facility will be the largest of its type in Europe and is set to create up to 70 new jobs.
Palletforce chief executive officer Michael Conroy added: “These record volumes are the result of major ongoing investment in the Palletforce network and its infrastructure, and they will only increase when the SuperHub opens next year.
“However they are also testament to our members. Without their hard work and expertise, none of this success would be possible.”
