Savoye, one of the world’s leading warehouse logistics solution providers, has been chosen by Procter & Gamble (P&G) to supply a new automated order preparation system for the global FMCG manufacturer’s Bournemouth site. The new installation is due to go live in January 2010 and is the first order preparation system sold directly to P&G by Savoye.
P&G, the world’s largest consumer goods company, markets over 300 brands worldwide, including Ariel, Braun, Duracell, Head & Shoulders, Olay, Oral-B, Pampers, Pantene, Pringles and Wella. Its Bournemouth facility is dedicated to the dispatch of a number of cosmetic, fine fragrance and professional hair care product lines.
The new order preparation system will incorporate a split case function which allows picking from different areas of the warehouse, for example bulk storage for pallets or split case areas for item picks. Designed to offer greater flexibility and the capability to respond to changes in demand and product lines, the system is able to cope with the requirements of different business streams and a wide range of stock keeping units.
Sayove has created an order fulfilment and packaging solution which incorporates ‘tunnel’ stations with ‘pick-to-light’ and an enhanced warehouse control system (WCS) to manage the order preparation process and interface with the existing warehouse management system.
When fully operational the new system will vastly increase the warehouse throughput to approximately 50,000 split case lines per day at peak, handling over 230,000 items. The new system also offers P&G the flexibility to grow in the future and introduce extra product lines if required.

Savoye has achieved this goal through working very closely with P&G using our comprehensive simulation tools to best advise them on the most efficient and flexible solution."
The new contract with P&G will further strengthen Savoye’s presence in the FMCG retail industry, a sector that Savoye is already well-established, with numerous installations throughout the world.
