Barry Gardiner MP, Shadow Minister for the Natural Environment and Fisheries will open the Plastics Recycling Expo Conference, taking place on 18-19 June at the Telford International Centre. Coca-Cola, Nissan and Akzo Nobel are among the leading brands whose representatives also figure in an impressive line-up of headline speakers at Europe’s first exhibition and conference dedicated to plastics recycling.
Essential subjects covered during the two-day event include overcoming plastics recycling challenges, new applications of recycled plastics, technology and innovation, supply chain developments and the future of pricing. Following the Shadow Minister in the opening session will be Stuart Foster, Chief Executive of RECOUP who will give an overview of the plastics recycling industry and Gareth Hollinshead, Key Account Manager for Plastics at WRAP looking at the role of recycled plastics in a circular economy and the Plastic Industry Recycling Action Plan (PIRAP).
Informative and revealing case studies will include The Coca-Cola Company’s Director of Environment & Water Resources Europe, Dr Klaus P. Stadler, who will present on new technology in recyclable plastics. He will tell the story of the PlantBottle, a fully recyclable PET bottle made from plant sources and Ford’s first-ever car interior made from PlantBottle packaging. Mark Ellis, Manager Materials Design and Test at Nissan’s Technical Center Europe will present on recycled plastic material applications within the automotive industry, revealing the challenges the company has faced and innovations it has introduced. Ben Gerry, General Manager and Dan Jordan, Recycling Line General Manager at Boomerang Plastics will cover Pots, Tubs and Trays, looking at the latest challenges and technological developments in recycling packaging for leading food brand Muller.
Roger Baynham, Chairman of the BPF Recycling Group will moderate a panel debate on supply chain collaboration for recycled plastics that will bring together the perspectives and roles of designers, manufacturers, users, local authorities and recyclers. David Cornish, Akzo Nobel’s Global Sustainability Manager for Resource Efficiency, will also explore how his company has used supply chain adaptations to return more recycled plastic to the industry.
Paolo Glerean, Sales Director of Aliplast SpA and board member of Plastics Recyclers Europe will cover packaging design and examine ways of improving the recyclability. Paul Sanderson, Editorial Director at Resource Efficient Business will share insights on the key issue of Forecasting the Price of Recycled Plastic. Chris Dow, CEO of Closed Loop will cover PRN’s and PERN’s and suggest how the current systems can be changed to benefit the plastics recycling industry and the economy as a whole. Dr Martin Forrest, Principle Consultant at Smithers Rapra will speak on the Use of Recycled Plastic for Food Contact Products, covering applicable regulations, materials, recycling system and testing for compliance.
The first day of the conference (June 18th) also includes the LARAC Local Authority Day Conference.
