Workers at leading recycling and waste management company SITA UK are celebrating after gaining new qualifications to better equip them in their jobs.
All 11 members of staff at Campground Transfer Station, Campground Household Waste Recycling Centre and Cowen Road Household Waste Recycling Centre in Gateshead and Sunderland have passed their Level 2 NVQs in Waste Management and Recycling Operations.
Ian Haswell, Business Manager for SITA UKs Gateshead and Sunderland facilities, said These achievements are the result of a considerable amount of hard work and effort from the staff.
The certificates formally recognise their competence within the waste management sector, achieved by each and every one of them.
I am immensely proud of my staff. They have all demonstrated a very high standard of commitment and competence to attain these awards and I hope it provides the basis for their on-going development of their waste management skills in the industry.
He said the men attained the qualification by frequently being assessed while at work, and also putting portfolios together.
Mr Haswell added: "Gaining this qualification has improved their understanding of recycling and waste management, and has also improved their awareness of health and safety issues and the value of team-working and customer care."
