Supermarket chain ASDA scoops UK Packaging Award

The sponsors of the UK Packaging Awards’ Innovation of the Year category, Pro2Pac, are delighted to congratulate leading supermarket chain ASDA who scooped the award with its fabric softener refill pouch.

The system allows customers to refill fabric softener into special laminated pouches through an in-store station that pumps the product from the back of shop. The pouches are designed to last for 10 refills and feature a clever ‘clean click’ system to attach them to the dispensing unit. The barcode incorporates an RFID chip that ensures the machine dispenses the correct variant of product into the pouches.

Graham Earl, Event Manager of Pro2Pac who presented the award, commented: "We are absolutely delighted for the team at ASDA, they are certainly deserving winners. The fabric softener pouch represents a step change in packaging innovation and could feasibly pave the way for similar retailer-led innovations in the future."

Pro2Pac, the UK’s only event dedicated to food & drink packaging and processing takes place from 13-16 March 2011 at ExCeL London and is co-located with the world renowned IFE (the International Food & Drink event).
