Topical freight and trade issues to be discussed at joint  BIFA and UKWA meeting

UKWA

The leading UK trade associations for companies that offer freight forwarding and warehousing logistics services have organised a joint meeting to update their respective members on a number of common current issues affecting their activities. The British International Freight Association BIFA and United Kingdom Warehousing Association UKWA have organised the event to provide an update on topical issues that operators should be aware of and thinking about in preparation for Brexit, and to outline how such companies can participate in shaping the future as the two trade associations prepare to provide advice to soon-to-be new UK government.

In regards to the UK’s impending exit from the EU, the event will focus on the preparations that any company can undertake now to prepare for possible Customs, and Excise procedures, post-Brexit.

Issues related to risk management in the new technology-driven logistics world, as well as the logistics skills agenda and apprenticeships, will also be addressed.

The thorny topic of supply and demand within the logistics property market will also be discussed at the meeting.

BIFA Director General, Robert Keen says: “There is still huge uncertainty about what the Brexit implications are for trade. We have heard all sorts of ‘facts’ and figures, but have tried not to speculate too much.

“Nonetheless, it is important that we consider the impact that the various Brexit scenarios might have on international trade and on the freight forwarding, warehousing and logistics companies that underpin that trade.”

The event, which will be held at the De Vere Beaumont Estate, Windsor, on Thursday May 18, 2017, starts at 15:30 and concludes with a drinks reception.
