Ward Williams Associates, one of the fastest growing construction consultancies in the country, has moved its Plymouth office to the Royal William Yard. The company which specialises in quantity surveying and project management is the latest high profile business to take up residence at the redeveloped scheme.
With five offices in the UK and one in Saudi Arabia, Ward Williams’ Plymouth office has been based at The Crescent since 2006. A move to a larger office is now essential since the consultancy has won a number of significant new commissions and has subsequently doubled its staff numbers over the past 18 months.
The company chose to relocate to Mills Bakery, a Grade I listed building which was the third to have been redeveloped by Urban Splash at Royal William Yard. The iconic Plymouth landmark was recently presented a prestigious RICS Award and has much to offer businesses.
To celebrate the move, Ward Williams is holding an inaugural Oktoberfest celebration on the green in the Royal William Yard on 14th October. Over 200 from the South West’s construction sector will attend the event which is intended to become an annual affair.

The redevelopment of the nineteenth century military buildings has attracted other major businesses such as marketing company Bluestone 360, The University of Plymouth, Hoare Lea, the Seco Lounge, Italian restaurant chain Prezzo and Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall’s River Cottage.
The mixed use fifteen acre site has a marina and offers views – and a water taxi – across the Plymouth Sound. Its location and address is proving highly attractive to businesses and residents alike with more than 50,000 sq ft of the 62,000 sq ft available space at the Mills Bakery and Brewhouse buildings already let.
With the website – www.royalwilliamyardharbour.co.uk – claiming that there is no better waterfront location in Britain, two sides of Mills Bakery look out directly onto water. One overlooks the Basin – Royal William Yard’s interior dock, while the other looks out onto the Hamoaze – the estuary of the tidal River Tamar.
Plymouth is currently benefitting from a scale of regeneration second only to the post war construction period. Plymouth City Council is aiming to place Plymouth as the prime city for accelerated growth in the far South West, which is reflected by Ward Williams Associates’ own growth performance.
