The GAC Group's commitment to staff learning and development has earned it recognition in the prestigious annual International Bulk Journal (IBJ) Awards.
Nearly 500 guests from the international shipping community were at the ceremony in Antwerp, Belgium, for the presentation of the Awards to industry leaders, including the People Development Award presented to Alan Hogg, GAC's UK General Manager of Dry Cargo in Stockton-On-Tees.
The Award acknowledges the excellent work of the GAC Corporate Academy (GCA) which provides state-of-the-art learning programs aligned directly with the GAC Strategic Plan for clear business outcomes.
The GCA's portfolio of more than 20 courses uses the e-Learning model, with programmes ranging from 'Introduction to the GAC World' to induct new employees into the GAC corporate culture and Spirit, to Sales Development courses and others specifically related to the Group's shipping and logistics operations. Participants complete the courses alongside their work routine, implementing what they learn to achieve practical results.
Learning organisation
"GAC is extremely proud of this achievement," says Jan Farnelid, GAC's Group Vice President, Human Resources. "In less than five years, the GAC Corporate Academy has gone from being a vision of developing GAC into a learning organisation to the highly sophisticated and internationally-recognised leader in corporate learning it is today.
"I congratulate those who have made GCA the success it is today, and sincerely thank IBJ for the acknowledgement."
