It’s renowned as an award-winning Mercedes-Benz truck and van specialist – but north-west dealer group Ciceley Commercials is a winner on the race track too.
Talented racing driver Adam Morgan, grandson of company Chairman Brian Morgan, has just lifted the championship trophy in the Ginetta G55 Sports Car Cup series for the dealership-sponsored Ciceley Racing Team.
Adam clinched his title at the last race meeting of this year’s series, held at Silverstone on 16th October. His success was particularly remarkable, given that 2011 was only Adam’s second and Ciceley Racing’s first year in the competition.
As part of his prize, Adam has secured a drive with a professional team in the British Touring Car Championship for 2012.
"It’s all incredibly exciting," enthused the 23-year-old from Ribchester, Lancashire. "Winning the Ginetta cup for Ciceley Racing in our first year as a team was a tremendous achievement. Stepping up to Touring Cars next year is going to be a massive challenge but I can’t wait to get started."
Ciceley Racing is a family affair – the team is owned and run by Adam’s father, Russell Morgan, who is also Vice-Chairman of Ciceley Commercials.
"Of course I’m very proud of Adam’s achievement," he said. "But our success is a tribute to the entire team, every member of which worked incredibly hard behind the scenes to help secure the championship for Ciceley."
Adam’s race car is powered by a highly-tuned 3.7-litre engine for maximum performance on the track – every bit as impressive, though, is the Mercedes-Benz Axor transporter used to deliver the car and team members to and from circuits across the country.
The 18-tonne Axor 1843 was sourced via the Mercedes-Benz Approved Used Commercial Vehicles scheme. It began life as an articulated tractor unit but the Ciceley team commissioned a chassis extension and the vehicle was then fitted with custom-built bodywork by specialist race transporter constructor Brookland Speed International, of Bristol.
With secure storage for the race car and a full stock of spares, tools and tyres, as well as a living area in the front section with kitchen, bathroom and beds for five, it provides a complete home – and garage – from home.
"The Axor is the perfect support vehicle for our needs and certainly draws a lot of attention in the paddock," Adam continued. "I passed my HGV test this year and drive it to and from all our races – it’s just as much fun as my Ginetta, although not quite as fast!"
Ciceley Commercials sells and supports the award-winning Mercedes-Benz truck and van range, from the mighty Actros premium tractor unit to the compact and fuel-efficient Vito van, as well as popular Fuso Canter light trucks, from dealership sites in Blackburn, Bolton, Carlisle, Dumfries and Preston.
