When Auto Support needed a reliable, well-built slidebed, capable of carrying a fully-laden armoured security van, only one manufacturer was on the money - Roger Dyson.
Auto Support operates from Kidderminster and works for a major national security solutions company whose reinforced vans can tip the scales at 5.0 tonnes, as well as for breakdown clubs, insurance companies, police forces and the Highways Agency.
"We run a lot of 12-tonne Renault Midlums, but if you put a security van on the back of one of those you run the risk of exceeding the permitted rear axle weight," explains Auto Support Director Nick Dawson.
"This 15-tonne gvw Iveco, with 5,000kg slidebed, is the perfect solution. We insist on the best quality equipment too and in our experience there's nothing to touch a Dyson."
Droitwich based Roger Dyson supplied the Iveco 150E25 chassis and fitted the Hydraloader 5000SLa (Super Low approach) equipment, which offers an industry-leading approach angle of just 4.9 degrees, and the added advantage of a second vehicle lift.
"The extra capacity of the bed and the chassis, which has an 9.0-tonne rear axle, means we never run the risk of overloading and can also use the spec lift to its full capability," says Mr Dawson.
"We cover the M5 and M50, which are the main routes to the holiday areas in the South-West and South Wales, so in the summer we frequently have to rescue caravanners. The Hydraloader's extremely low approach angle means that even the big, twin-axled caravans, which have very long overhangs, can be loaded easily without risk of any damage."
Auto Support and its sister company Roger's Rescue together run close to 80 recovery trucks, ranging from 3,000kg capacity Dyson Hydraloader 3000s to the fleet flagship, a four-axled Kenworth heavy recovery truck fitted with a Dyson NRC sliding rotator.
"We've expanded in recent years by taking over a couple of other local operations in Worcester and Halesowen, which is when we started using the Auto Support name," continues Mr Dawson. "The fleet at our original Kidderminster depot still runs under the Roger's Rescue brand, after my father who founded the business, but we're gradually phasing that out.
"The acquisitions mean we've inherited vehicles and equipment from a variety of manufacturers, but the overwhelming majority of trucks we've specified ourselves have come from Roger Dyson.
"Of course, it helps that Roger's premises are just a few minutes away from ours, and his after sale support is spot on. But the equipment is first class too - Roger has earned his reputation for excellent build quality and vehicles we've had from him still look like new after years of hard work."
