Barloworld Handling know the drill at NUB Engineering Limited

NUB Engineering has chosen the new Hyster Fortens truck for their tough engineering site in Motherwell.

Over the last fifteen years Barloworld Handling have developed a good working relationship with NUB Engineering and so were the first port of call when a new forklift truck was needed. NUB Engineering started in 1980 and is the only manufacturer and repairer of foundation drilling tools in the UK and export world-wide. They have built their reputation on traditional engineering excellence coupled with the latest technology and have a turnover of £3m and a workforce of twenty-five at their site in Motherwell.

The two Hyster lift trucks, a H2.50XM, 2,500kg capacity lift truck and the new Fortens H3.5FT-A, 3,500kg capacity are used throughout the production process. When the steel plates arrive they are unloaded and stored by the lift trucks. The plates are then taken to the CNC profiler to be cut into shape and then taken to the presses where the helixes are formed in various diameters. Once complete the sections are stored awaiting dispatch around the world. In addition drilling augurs and tools are sent back for repair and reconditioning. This operation works on two 8-hour shifts 6 days and 5 nights a week.

In the operation the lift trucks are required to lift both pallets and drill lengths up to 3,000kg. The new Fortens H3.5FT-A is a hit with the operators as they have found it to be easier to drive and feel very safe when moving loads. There are several features that have made the truck more comfortable for the operators most notably the press-button horn on the overhead guard, the adjustable armrest that incorporates Touchpoint mini-levers and the isolated drivetrain that minimises the effect of vibration.

As there is a slight incline in the yard, NUB Engineering have seen the Duramatch transmission, that prevents rollback, as another major benefit of the new truck.

Bill Usher, Director of NUB Engineering, comments: “We have had a good working partnership with Barloworld Handling for some time now. This new Fortens lift truck from Hyster is the ideal truck for our application and it has certainly made life more comfortable and safer for my operators.”
