A growth in part load and groupage activity has prompted P&O Ferrymasters to team up with one of the UK's leading logistics solution suppliers to create a vast new Midlands (UK) hub.
P&O Ferrymasters has moved into a larger hub in Leicester, operated by the Widdowson Group, from its previous base in Loughborough, to cope with the demand for this type of business.
From this new base P&O Ferrymasters will be able to offer enhanced customer services including food grade warehousing, computerised warehouse management systems, case and carton picking, racked pallet space and bulk storage facilities, container handling, pallet control, reverse logistics and contract management services.
Jules Menheere, P&O Ferrymasters' Contract Logistics Director, said: “This is a strong strategic partnership which will enable P&O Ferrymasters to develop its expanding groupage and part load activities in the UK even further. The Widdowson Group operates a vast range of services which we can now utilise to maximum effect to offer added value to our own customers.”
In 2008 the Widdowson Group, which is a member of the United Kingdom Warehousing Association and the Road Haulage Association, moved 42,000 pallets through their cross-docking warehouse and achieved 31,000 individual deliveries.
P&O Ferrymasters is a market leader in the provision of integrated transport solutions and freight management services for European industry. It is part of P&O Ferries, which is owned by Dubai World, and employs 900 people at 28 strategic locations across 11 European countries.
