Saxlund International, the biomass and bulk solids handling experts, has appointed Rob Leighton as the company's new sales manager. In line with Saxlund's development strategy, Rob will be responsible to the board of directors for developing the business in existing and new markets.
Historically, amongst other markets, the company has been dominant in the waste water industry in the design and manufacture of special handling equipment and silos, but the business has expanded rapidly into other sectors where Rob will be responsible for building sales and new business pipeline.
These include the food production and cement industries, and securing contracts to expand the company's portfolio of flat bottom silo and bunker discharge technology and conveyor systems for difficult bulk solid materials.
Saxlund is a market leader in the bulk solid handling and storage sector, with more than 60 years experience in numerous industries, including recycling, biomass combustion and waste water. The company - which is a subsidiary of Opcon, the energy and environmental technology Group - is experienced in designing, manufacturing and installing quality equipment of first class specification, construction and performance.
Rob has a long history in sales having worked in the sector since 1998. He joins Saxlund from Schenck Process UK where he held the position of UK sales Manager for Light Industries. He also has experience working for Guttridge Ltd as well as Grundofs Pumps Ltd.
Rob Leighton commented; "I'm excited about this fantastic opportunity to work for such a key player in the biomass combustion and materials handling industry. I have already met with several of our customers and visited a number of our projects across the UK, from Scotland to Somerset, so I'm looking forward to helping the business move into new sectors."
Saxlund specialises in project managing as well as part-production. The Southampton headquartered company works on some of the largest projects in the UK and is well known for its excellent safety standards, as well as ingenuity in designing new products.
Saxlund's Managing Director, Matt Drew, commented: "We wanted to find someone of Rob's calibre who has experience in sales, but who comes from a slightly different industry, to bring fresh ideas to the table and help us to develop our business in the UK. I'm looking forward to seeing how Rob grows into his new position."
