Briggs nominated for customer services award at UK warehouse association

Leading forklift truck distributor, Briggs Equipment, has been recognised for its efforts to help a leading waste and recycling firm save around £220,000 over the next five years.

The Cannock-based firm was amongst the finalists for the prestigious customer services award at this year's UK Warehouse Association (UKWA) Awards 2011. Finalists were judged on evidence of customer insight and a customer focused culture within the organisation.

Briggs worked with Viridor to install Speedshield on all forklift trucks at its Skelmersdale facility. This management software tool helped the firm reduce damage costs by nearly 75 per cent and reduce fuel consumption by around 1,000 to 2,000 litres a month.

Speedshield provides real-time information on individual truck performance and monitors speed, idle time, any impacts or breakdowns as well as enforcing a compulsory health and safety check before trucks go into operation.

All information is available through a dedicated web-based portal where fleet managers can keep track of and modify any machine movements and options all in one place.

"The customer services award was introduced new for 2011 and to be shortlisted for the award was a real privilege," commented Chris Meinecke, Briggs Equipment's chief operating officer. "We have a unique product in Speedshield and combined with our ability to offer tailored-made handling solutions, we can work closely with our customers to help minimise unnecessary damage, service and fuel costs."

The UKWA awards 2011 were held on Wednesday 6th July at the Dorchester Hotel in London.
