Centrepiece of the Hiab display on the Cargotec Stand (3E40) at the Commercial Vehicle Show, NEC Birmingham, 24-26 April 2012, will be the Hiab XS 144 Lorry-mounted Crane.
Computer-aided design used in development of the XS 144 crane geometry has resulted in a lightweight construction that belies the reach and brute power it possesses. The crane can be configured to suit the user’s requirements in terms of reach and capacity, and a range of control systems of varying levels of sophistication are available.
The XS 144 at the Commercial Vehicle Show will feature Hiab’s HiDuo control system which is based on the proven Hiab Valve 80 fluid power technology. A superbly engineered opencentre design, the Hiab Valve 80 handles large oil flows to deliver fast and powerful performance with high precision and ease of operation.
Part of the HiDuo system, SPACE 4000 intelligent electronics monitor all crane functions for maximum safety and productivity.
Functions monitored (depending on the chosen specification) include overload protection, pump speed, pump flow distribution plus fault code and load cycle data which can be retrieved for fault diagnosis and operational use analysis.
The SPACE 4000 system is compatible with the Hiab XSDrive remote control. This unit allows the crane operator to be positioned at the best possible location when operating the crane, leading to more efficient, comfortable work whilst increasing safety.
A spin-off benefit is that by operating the crane while standing next to the load, a loading assistant is not required, allowing the work to be completed faster and at a lower cost.
VSL Advanced Safety System
VSL (variable stability limit) featured on the XS 144 is the most advanced safety system currently available. Operating via the SPACE 4000 system, VSL ensures vehicle stability by monitoring how far the stabilisers are extended and indicating the crane’s maximum capacity at any given point. This effectively increases the load capacity and stability and enables the crane to safely handle higher capacities at any given leg position.
