Cathay Pacific China business awards 2011 take off

As the global economic landscape shifts its sights from West to East, British businesses are increasingly looking to Hong Kong and China for opportunities. Now open for entries, the seventh annual Cathay Pacific China Business Awards recognises and rewards the best of British businesses trading with the region.
Cathay Pacific is proud to invite large and small UK enterprises to enter these prestigious awards. The awards cover a range of businesses; from SME’s that have established successful trading links, to larger businesses that have shown long term commitment, and those businesses and non-governmental organisations whose projects have displayed either business innovation, environmental or CSR benefits in China.

Each winning organisation will receive a prize consisting of two business class tickets to anywhere on the Cathay Pacific China network and the winners will be presented with their prize at a formal awards ceremony at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel in London. In addition, Cathay Pacific will provide the winners with considerable business networking opportunities in the UK and China to help further their business goals.

Previous winners of these prestigious awards include CRCC Asia, Penguin Group, SMD Holdings Ltd, B&Q, Arup, Prudential, Cherry Valley Farms, Rolls Royce and the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health.
The three award categories are:
• The Rising Stars Award: Aimed at recognising the achievements of UK registered SMEs trading with the region.
• The Continued Commitment Award: an award which recognises outstanding and continued commitment by an established UK based company to Hong Kong and/or China, through past efforts or future projects.
• The New Horizons Award: an award open to any company, academic or not for profit organisation that can demonstrate a single project or initiative that displays business innovation, research activities within the region, including a strong environmental or CSR theme.

Entries will be judged by a panel made up of senior representatives from Cathay Pacific, The China Britain Business Council, HSBC and The Daily Telegraph.
Angus Barclay, General Manager Europe, Cathay Pacific commented, "The awards are now in their seventh year and they have never been more relevant in terms of the changing global economic landscape. As Hong Kong’s flagship carrier we have been flying businessmen and women between the UK and Hong Kong since 1980. We are delighted to promote, encourage and applaud strong business links between the UK and China. These awards celebrate and reward talent, innovation, and entrepreneurial spirit for which the UK is renowned.’

Jo Lusby, Managing Director at Penguin China, added: "We were honoured to receive the Continued Commitment Award last year. Penguin is committed to bringing the best of English writing to China, and vice versa, and we were delighted that our work in China was recognised. We were particularly pleased that the judges highlighted the ethical and culturally sensitive nature of our work. We have continued to pursue our collaborative approach, working with Chinese publishers and training translators to help increase the flow of literature between the two countries, and one day we hope to count China among our biggest and most loyal markets."
