Certex, Europe launches 'lifting knowhow' phone app

Certex, Europe's leading supplier of steel wire rope and lifting equipment, has just launched an innovative 'Lifting KnowHow' App designed to enable customers to implement safer lifting.

The App is available for use on iPhones and iPads and includes a range of essential practical features such as easy-to-use load tables for a variety of items; a protractor for measuring lift angles; brief instructions for the safe use of shackles and round slings, and a built-in GPS to automatically locate the nearest Certex office anywhere in Europe.

In addition, the App also contains the popular Sling Calculator system devised by lifting gear manufacturers Crosby Europe which includes their latest Sling Tension Calculator; Centre of Gravity Calculator; and End Weights, Pallet, Volume and Weights calculators.

'We believe that the App will provide quick and easy access to a range of vital calculations necessary for safe lifting across all applications and industries,' said Certex's Commercial and Marketing Manager, Scott Wilcox. 'It is a very clever gadget and one that we are sure our customers will struggle to do without. For example, the right-hand side of the phone becomes the measuring device when using the protractor, while the load calculator uses the swipe screen and simple visual icons to enable the user to quickly select the correct configurations. We are also delighted to be including the renowned Crosby Sling Calculator and to have teamed up with our sister companies across Europe to offer the App to as many of our customers as possible.'

The App is the latest innovation under the company's 'Lifting KnowHow' programme - a European initiative introduced by all Certex companies aimed at improving health and safety through the sharing of technical expertise and safe practice. The App will be available for download on other Smart Phones shortly.
