Contract packer Grotech Production has transferred the filling of product for its long-standing customer Chemtura to fellow BCMPA member Exwold Technology Ltd. based in N.E. England in a move that offers Chemtura increased efficiencies in manufacture and logistics.
Grotech has been Chemtura's packer of choice for over 17 years, handling the company's range of Fazor plant growth regulators. Bulk manufacture of the granular product - originally produced in the USA - has been carried out by Exwold since 2006. As Exwold has facilities to pack as well as manufacture, the decision was taken with Grotech's blessing to carry out the entire operation at Exwold.
"This decision is in no way the result of any service issues we have ever experienced at Grotech," confirms Janine Gorry of Chemtura. "Grotech's excellent performance over the years is also well recognised by our wider management team within the Chemtura Crop business and for this reason we would not hesitate to consider Grotech for any future repacking requirements we may have."
Grotech and Exwold worked closely with Chemtura to ensure a smooth transition which was completed by the end of July 2010. "A major move such as this is logistically demanding and we were extremely pleased with Grotech's flexibility, goodwill and professionalism in tackling the operation," confirms James Robson, Business Development Director of Exwold.
A further example of Grotech's professionalism was illustrated when the summer demand for the Fazor product exceeded forecast and Grotech re-opened its packing line for a week in August to keep UK farmers supplied while Exwold was in the midst of an annual maintenance programme.
Martin Usher, Managing Director of Grotech Production agrees that "The nature of co-packing is such that these changes occur from time to time for business reasons. We take a mature view that the excellent relationship we have enjoyed with Chemtura should continue up to and beyond the end of our contract."
He adds that Grotech is pleased that Chemtura has chosen a fellow member of the BCMPA as it "illustrates the strength of the organisation and the shared opportunities created by the network."
BCMPA Chief Executive Rodney Steel agrees. "This is exactly the kind of co-operative, professional attitude that ensures healthy business for all contract manufacturers and packers. I am delighted that Grotech and Exwold have been able to work together to ensure that Chemtura's needs are met smoothly and efficiently."
