Charity boost thanks to ‘REEL’ deal

A charity for people with learning disabilities has received a welcome boost thanks to the generosity of two businesses.

Archway, a North East of Scotland based charity, who provide innovative community based services to improve the opportunities available for people with learning disabilities has received a £2,000 donation from Bridon thanks to a charitable agreement between the company and EnerMech.

Fraser Williams from Bridon explains: “EnerMech recently bought a number of specialist reels from us for a contract they were working on.

“They ended up not using all five of the reels so we came to an agreement, along with the end customer, that, in return for a charitable donation, EnerMech would return two back to us. The reels are now showcased at the Bridon Technology Centre in Doncaster, one of the world’s most advanced facilities for the development and testing of offshore ropes and the Bridon Neptune Quay (BNQ), in Newcastle, our state-of-the-art factory which produces the largest and most complex offshore ropes in the world.

“We are delighted to be able to make this donation to Archway as we know that they do fantastic work across the North East of the country.”

Archway currently supports nearly 200 children and adults with learning disabilities through respite, shared and permanent care services.

“This is a great example of how companies can work together to benefit others. As a global technology leader in the manufacture of wire and fibre rope we were tasked with creating reels that would provide best back tension and quickest installation offshore.

“Without this agreement, the specialist reels would have just been scrapped. But we were pleased to be able to re-paint them and create plaques explaining their history and display them at two of our UK sites,” added Fraser.

Aberdeen headquartered EnerMech provides a broad range of mechanical services to the international energy industry and works closely with Bridon across a number of the territories in which they operate.

John Morrison, Cranes & Lifting Director at EnerMech said “Archway is a charity local to our Aberdeen headquarters which provides tremendous support to the families which use their services and we were delighted to support Bridon in this charitable initiative.”
