A Northumberland specialist skin care company has teamed up with a fellow northern-based logistics firm to help it successfully secure an exclusive retail deal for its range of eczema products.
Skin Salveation, based in Morpeth, contacted Assembly and Packaging Services (APS) in Blyth to help it secure a deal with one of London’s oldest and largest pharmacies, John Bell & Croyden – part of the Lloyds Pharmacy group.
John Davidson, managing director of Skin Salveation, which produces the UK’s leading eczema treatment in irritant-free products such as creams and shampoos, required APS to produce samples and costings for a retail-ready pack and point of sale material in less than three weeks.
The quality and effectiveness of the product – coupled with the excellent packaging and display material – has led to an exclusive deal being secured with the pharmacy group, which opens up a whole new market for the brand.
Until now the products have been successfully sold worldwide online – Mr Davidson says the work that went into preparing for this deal shows just what can be achieved when local expertise is combined: "This development has elevated the Skin Salveation brand to a whole new level, demonstrating the integrity and quality of the products in what is a highly aggressive and competitive market.
"Given the potential size of this opportunity, I needed to choose a fulfilment company that could not only deliver on the initial project, but one that can go on to deliver at the highest level in potentially high volumes.
"We were given a very demanding schedule to get these products ready for the shelf and I knew APS had the expertise and capability to help us achieve it. Their work was absolutely excellent and the feedback from John Bell & Croyden was that the packaging looked outstanding."
The story of the products began when two County Durham miners discovered that mixing certain ingredients to make soap reduced the harsh effects of their skin-hostile workplace. Realising the phenomena of the combined ingredients, Drs, Mark Randle and Stephen Drew, worked with world class chemists, including Proctor and Gamble, to develop the products and Skin Salveation was formed.
APS is one of the UK’s leading contract packing companies with an impressive track record working with blue chip clients including The Body Shop, Coca Cola, P&G, Boots and Nike.
The firm, which has extensive expertise and capabilities in preparing products for the retail environment, has been the company of choice in servicing the complex needs of many high street brands such as Duracell, Pampers, Persil, Pantene, Walkers and Tetley.
Chris Turner, commercial manager at APS, said: "The majority of the work we do is with a ‘just in time’ delivery so challenging and deadline driven demands are part of everyday life.
"The challenge is to give the highest quality within the shortest time frame and it’s because we have a full-time, dedicated quality manager that sets us apart and enables us to be the fastest and the best.
"We’re delighted for John, it’s great to be keeping a project like this, which has been northern-based from conception, in the region."
APS has remained at the forefront of its industry for almost 30 years – something Mr Turner says is due to its ability to deliver deadline-driven, quality packaging solutions to complex and often logistically challenging projects. It offers a full service package of design, procure, manipulate, store and distribute to its customers as well as specialising in gift assembly, pick and pack, sub assembly, labelling, collation, flowrap, blister packing, and filling.
