Cool Track from Seven Telematics now features strongly in Sunrent’s refrigerated fleet

Sunrent, the bespoke rental and contract hire company, has used Seven’s Transcan 2 units on its fridge vehicles for over 15 years now, specifying it as a standard fitment for all 3.5t to 26t fridge vehicles, buying over 1,000 systems in this time.

In 2014, Sunrent took its strategy with Seven Telematics a step further and, following an initial trial period with the Cool Track system fitted to three of its vehicles, Sunrent has now taken a further 54 Cool Track remote monitoring systems from Seven Telematics as they find that its overall performance gives customers added value from their refrigerated rental fleet.

As Sunrent already specifies the Transcan 2 data logging system from Seven Telematics as standard fitment within all its refrigerated vehicles, the addition of Seven’s Cool Track remote monitoring is an obvious progression, according to the Kent based company.

As Director Jason Saunders says, “The first three trial systems, fitted to dual compartment rigid trucks, have all worked really well and we were very impressed by the quality of the information generated. It allowed us to monitor the performance of the three vehicles, averting potential downtime and unnecessary callouts. In today’s competitive environment, we believe that the addition of Cool Track remote monitoring on our vehicles will automatically give added value to our customers.”

The first Cool Track system was fitted to a demonstration DAF LF55.220 Euro VI 18t dual compartment rigid that is operating in the Sunrent rental fleet, whilst the other two systems were fitted to DAF 14t dual compartment rigids belonging to a specific customer operating in the foodservice sector.

“The demonstration vehicle was trialled with a significant number of customers and everybody was really impressed with the performance and information generated from the Cool Track remote monitoring system, Sunrent utilises the switch inputs upon the Transcan 2 temperature recorder to their full capacity. These, connected to Cool Track, provide live visibility of the refrigeration system status, i.e. Fridge Diesel on/off, electric standby on/off, defrost on/off, side and rear door open/closed. In addition to the interface with vehicle CANbus and digital tachograph integration, this gives Sunrent a complete fleet and driver management solution.” added Jason Saunders.

Of the 54 additional Cool Track systems from Seven Telematics, 35 are being fitted to new trucks currently being supplied to a long-term Sunrent customer as part of a seven-year contract hire deal. Four systems are going on new trucks just going into service with another customer, whilst the remaining 15 systems are being fitted to vehicles within the national Sunrent rental fleet.

Leading contract hire and rental company Sunrent is a wholly owned family business formed 15 years ago and based in Kent. The company currently operates a 500 strong fleet of vehicles, of which 70% are refrigerated trucks and vans.

“Continuity is an integral element of our day-to-day operations. It is important that the equipment that we specify within our fleet is of the highest quality, in terms of product manufacture and performance for our customers. This is why we have Seven’s Transcan 2 data logging system fitted to all our refrigerated vehicles and are now increasing our telematics options in the fleet through the introduction of Cool Track remote monitoring. We believe we are the first rental and contract hire company to provide such a system to our customers, cementing our position as the only family owed British bespoke refrigerated contract hire company in the UK,” commented Jason Saunders.
