Currie European stress importance of EN Codification on new trailers

Currie European, the UK and European transport and logistics provider, report that an ever increasing number of European based customers are insisting that the hauliers provide EN12462 Code XL codification - approved equipment. Without it, they will not do business.

Based in Dumfries, SW Scotland, Currie European provide road freight services and warehousing to a cross section of business sectors throughout Europe, including: fast moving consumer goods, air freight, beverages, industrial, high technology and paper and packaging.

Servicing the operation, the company employs a trailer fleet of 480 including the recent addition of 30 sliding roof Profi Liner curtainsiders from Krone.

According to the European Commission - Directorate for Energy and Transport, EN 12642 - XL refers to the 'Securing of cargo on road vehicles - body structure of commercial vehicles - minimum requirements' whereby 'Curtainsiders constructed according to the standard, need to fulfil requirements regarding stability criteria and test conditions of the front wall, rear wall and side walls'.

All Krone trailers are built and tested to meet the EN standard and as such are compliant with the regulation.

Stephen Turner, MD of Currie European, is unequivocal regarding the importance

of the codification:

"More and more customers require their hauliers to match up to EN 12642 XL. Frankly, it is the way we all have to go and from a responsible health and safety perspective it makes very good sense. Accordingly, as Krone is the European market leader in this area it was logical for us to seek a deal with them."

Also important for Currie European when selecting new trailer equipment from Krone is the build quality and sliding roof. Each chassis is KTL protected against rust and comes with a ten year corrosion guarantee. This is equal to the term which each trailer will serve in the fleet. The Krone sliding roof meanwhile is easily handled and provides access along the entire trailer length from above.

Another feature which appealed to Currie European is the Krone Multi - Safe Load Securing System. Based on a patented, multi lashing point side rave, the Multi - Safe System allows for up to 3000 different strapping and loading permutations. Mixed loads can be carried without risk of damage or harm to personnel through detachment from the trailer.

Currie European has depots in Glasgow, Warrington, Nijmegen in the Netherlands and Mary La Ville in France. Additionally they have dedicated partners in Germany, Italy, Ireland and Scandinavia.
