Dawsonrental takes first Swinglift Container Handling System

The first two trailers to be fitted with the Swinglift container handling system have entered service in the UK with the Dawson Temperature Control Solutions.
Supplied by Montracon, who became the sole UK and Europe agent for Swinglift in April this year, the trailers and lifts have been engineered to handle the collection/delivery from/to customers’ premises of 12.2m (40ft), 13.7m (45ft) and 15.2m (50ft) long transportable cold stores and blast freezers up to 3.8m wide without the need for local cranage. Swinglift is being used to load/unload cold stores and freezers or to transfer them from one trailer to another.
Swinglifts are mounted at either end of the extendible trailers, the trailer length being adjusted to suit the size of cold store or blast freezer being handled. Cold stores and blast freezers are secured on the trailer by ‘inboard’ twistlocks.

Speaking of the trailers Chris Allen, fleet manager at Dawson Temperature Control Solutions, said: ‘We worked closely with Montracon engineers in developing the right specification and, after just a few weeks in service, its clear that this work was well founded. The performance of the new trailers coupled with the operational benefits they bring have easily exceeded even our most optimistic expectations.

‘The two Swinglift trailers and the two similarly configured Montracon skeletal trailers supplied as part of the order mean that we can collect and deliver a selection of cold stores and blast freezers to any given location(s) without the need for and thus the cost of local cranage.’

‘Also, not being dependent on the availability of external cranage provides greater scheduling flexibility for deliveries/collections,’ he closed.
