The judges of the FTA Logistics Carbon Reduction Scheme (LCRS) Awards 2014 had some very difficult decisions to make when deliberating over the entries to the five Award categories; thanks to the nominations far exceeding expectations, and the record number of entrants.
Chairing the judging panel at IVECO house in Watford was FTA chief executive Theo de Pencier who admitted that after much deliberation the decisions of the winners and highly commended companies of the prestigious Awards proved extremely difficult.
Mr de Pencier said:
"The calibre of entries to the 2014 LCRS Awards has been exceptional, and as a result incredibly difficult to judge. These Awards celebrate companies' leadership in reducing carbon emissions from freight, and it is evident from the applications this year that they demonstrate the importance of the green agenda to the logistics sector. All the entrants should be congratulated on the initiatives they have taken in order to improve fuel efficiency, by utilising alternative fuel and reducing their carbon emissions."
The 2014 LCRS categories were:
Best fuel efficient operation (sponsored by Bridgestone)
Best use of alternative low carbon fuels and technologies (sponsored by Gasrec)
Most innovative fleet management (sponsored by IVECO)
Breakthrough in modal shift (sponsored by Intermodality)
Leadership in logistics carbon reduction (sponsored by PTV Group)
The LCRS Awards will be presented at this year FTA's annual LCRS Cutting Carbon, Cutting Cost Conference at the National Motorcycle Museum, Birmingham, which will be held on 21 May 2014.
Rachael Dillon, FTA's Climate Change Policy Manager added:
"FTA was delighted at the success of the inaugural LCRS Awards last year, but the 2014 entries has far exceeded our expectations and illustrates the efforts that for fleet operators are undertaking to improve fuel efficiency and reduce carbon emissions. The Awards are a recognition of their work and are a signal to customers, stakeholders, policymakers and the public that the freight industry is making significant efforts to contribute to solving the climate change challenge."
