DS Smith Recycling's national commercial manager, Tim Price, has completed a charity bike ride from Cardiff to Paris. The challenge was organised as part of the testimonial year for Tom Shanklin, a Cardiff Blue's and Wales national rugby player.
Tim was part of a 10-strong team, led by Shanklin and made up of a variety of ex-sportsmen and local Cardiff businessmen, that covered the 240 miles in four days, raising more than £25,000. This money will be shared between Wooden Spoon, a charity which helps disadvantaged children, the Welsh Charitable Players Trust, which provides support to families of professional players whose careers are cut short due to injury, as well as the testimonial fund.
The ride was actually Tim's idea, as he is on the committee of Tom Shanklin's testimonial, and was timed to coincide with arriving in Paris ahead of the Cardiff Blues versus French side, Racing Metro 92, in the Heineken Cup.
Tim Price comments: "Riding to Paris is a great physical challenge and linked really well with the Testimonial and the sporting charities that it supports. It was a bit wet and windy but great fun and we're delighted to have raised such an amount for some really worthwhile Welsh charities."
The challenge was topped off by the Blues winning the Heineken Cup first round match 26 - 20.
Time Price is second on the right of the front row.
