DSV, together with real estate developer Habacker, has unveiled plans to construct a €60 million logistics facility in Krefeld-Fichtenhain, Germany.
The 80,000m2 facility will consolidate a number of DSV facilities of the Road, Air & Sea and Solutions divisions in North Rhine-Westphalia.
"Combining the three divisions into one facility will certainly strengthen our market position in North Rhine-Westphalia," says Peter Fog-Petersen, Managing Director, DSV Road, Germany. The logistics centre will be the new home for DSV facilities currently located in Neuss, Mettman, Duisburg, Nettetal, Düsseldorf and Willich.
Additional warehouses planned
"The new logistics centre has a future-proof design," comments Harald Shefft, Managing Director, DSV Solutions, Germany. Additional expansion of the site has already been taken into account.
"The consolidation of our branches into one large, multi-divisional logistic centre is expected to bring substantial synergy effects. Additionally, it underlines our strategy to increase cross-divisional collaboration in order to offer our clients truly integrated end-to-end logistics solutions."
Construction starts 2013
Habacker will start construction on the 168,000m2 plot in Krefeld-Fichtenhein in 2013. DSV plans to move into the new facility during 2014.
Habacker has experience in similar projects, making it the ideal partner for DSV to ensure an efficient and timely delivery.
"During the preparation stage of the project we have been able to establish a close partnership with DSV," said to Stephanie Habacker-Arndt and Michael Habacker, Managing Directors of Habacker Holding.
The planned logistics capacity of the building will be around 50,000m2 to 60,000m2 with an additional 15,000m2 cross-docking area and 7,000m2 of office space. The facility will include state-of-the art logistics features complying with the most advanced logistics’ standards. Special attention will also be given to the office environment which is planned to host over 900 employees.
