Innovative materials handler now holds 120tonnes. Kardex, the World's leading provider of advanced picking and distribution technology, has enhanced its Shuttle XP high-density vertical lift storage and retrieval system. Now designed to house 120tonnes of material at a height of up to 20m, the robust system allows a higher load of materials handling at a greater range of working heights.
“The enhanced Shuttle XP has a highly compact footprint and makes use vertical space to store and retrieve vast quantities of product,” explains Richard Price, business development manager for Kardex. “Our dynamic storage systems are very efficient and this means that users benefit from higher productivity levels and substantially lower costs.”
The Kardex Shuttle XP, available up to 30m high, is a vertical lift-based storage solution designed to minimise floor space use and speed up picking, while providing added security and safety. By combining all stock into one high-density Shuttle XP unit, high security is achieved, minimising stock losses enabling higher levels of inventory accuracy.
Unlike conventional storage systems, the innovative computer-controlled unit constantly detects the height of items placed within and dynamically allocates storage space to maximise internal capacity – irrespective of the variation of the load. Operating on the principle of 'goods-to-man' the system minimises picking time.
Price concludes: “As stock control becomes more accurate, downtime and buffer levels are reduced and the return on investment is usually seen within just six to 18 months.”
As with all Kardex materials handling systems, customer requirements are evaluated by specialists prior to system design and followed by turnkey installation. Mission-critical reliability is ensured by the nationwide network of Kardex service and support engineers, 24/7 back-up and remote diagnostics capability.
