Enhancements to 4PL support, cross dock functionalities and brand new web based plan board, from Kewill Logistics

Kewill (LSE: KWL), a leading provider of solutions that simplify global trade and logistics, today announced the new release of its best-of-breed transportation and warehouse management suite Kewill Logistics 6.04. This application offers an integrated lead up to Logistics Service Providers and Road Forwarders with a quick settlement of transport and warehousing processes and a strong focus on cost management. Kewill Logistics has been developed using modern technology including open standards such as Java, web services and XML.

4PL Module – directing the complete supply chain for customers
Many LSPs broaden their services offerings from plain transport to more extended external logistics services (3PL and 4PL services). The new 4PL module of Kewill Logistics offers an easy to use toolset (Purchase Order Management System) to set up and control all kinds of third-party logistics services without the need of in-house transport assets. 4PL-processes in Kewill Logistics are being routed based on the article definitions. The type of article determines each step through the logistic process towards the ultimate destination. Examples include standard sizes and weights per article, box and pallet, but also matching tariff structures, expected date of arrival in the DC or port, and the required date of delivery on a production facility or another warehouse. The article’s master data, which is normally only available in a WMS environment, outlines the entire supply chain process. Another example is the possibility to add multiple dates to one single order. This generates relevant milestones to actively drive ‘pro-active workflows’ in the system to proceed sub-processes to a next stage.

Cross dock enhancements – less faults in storage and transit phases of transportation
Kewill Logistics 6.04 also offers an extension to the existing cross dock functionalities. In the TMS, more functions are being delivered to support the process in the transit warehouse, without the need of implementing a WMS environment. The cross dock module includes integrated management of incoming and outgoing trips, load and unload lists, printing of transport documents, transport labels and overviews such as inventory differences etc. The use of radio frequency (RF) scanning in the cross dock process is also supported by the system, but it still can also operate manually.

Web based plan board – to support multi-site environments
By developing the new plan board in Kewill Logistics 6.04 the entire application suite has become web based. Prior to this development, this was still one of the last client/servers in use. Due to this, Citrix or Terminal Server will no longer be required to run it in a multi-site environment. The plan board can be accessed from any location without any installation of software required. The automatic planning of shipments is a key-functionality in the TMS, allowing transport planners to consolidate and manage their shipments into trips. By using clear overviews and reports, the drag and drop grouping, sorting and filtering options, the transport planning department is provided with an excellent tool to perform its tasks.

Meet the market requirements from LSPs
"The industry demands systems that streamline 3rd-party logistics services and make them more transparent", says Gerry Daalhuisen, Global Product Manager at Kewill, "By adopting new technology from a pragmatic point of view, Kewill offers new functionality to the market place that meets actual business developments in the market. With this latest release, logistics companies are better placed to deliver more detailed cost calculations for their services and eventually manage the financial settlements in a more accurate way. This meets the demand of the industry to strive for more transparency and efficiency throughout the entire process."
