City Link the UK's premium express delivery Company is distributing 66,000 trees to almost 1,000 destinations nationwide this week as part of a green campaign launched by environmental organisation Breathing Places, in conjunction with the BBC.
City Link's Carlisle Depot has collected the trees for delivery to schools and other organisations across the country in time for the Tree O'Clock record breaking campaign next month.
The event has been organised as part of National Tree Week. Its aim is to plant a million trees across the UK in the space of one hour. The bid will take place across the country on Saturday December 5th, from 11am to 12 noon.
So far groups up and down the country have pledged to plant more than 253,000 trees at hundreds of destinations across 67 counties. Organisers are calling on more people throughout the UK to join the campaign for the benefit of future generations.
Stuart Binnie, General Manager at City Link's Carlisle Depot, said: "Tree O'Clock is a fantastic campaign which will not only help raise general awareness of green issues among hundreds of thousands of people across the UK but will have multiple positive effects on the environment which will benefit future generations in the decades and centuries to come.
"City Link is delighted to be a part of this campaign and we wish the best of luck to all of those taking part on December 5th."
City Link, which is this year celebrating its 40th anniversary, employs 5,500 people throughout the UK, operating 3,000 vehicles from a network of 85 Depots, handling approximately 350,000 parcels daily.
