Following its recent takeover of the Italian battery company Fiamm Motive Power (FMP), EnerSys has appointed Chris Walsh as European Sales Manager for monobloc batteries.
Chris's role will also support sales activities for the Hawker range of monobloc batteries. EnerSys acquired the Hawker brand two years ago.
Chris is spearheading a concerted campaign to strengthen further FMP's grip on the market for monobloc traction batteries, particularly those used in industrial cleaning machines and mobile access equipment, sectors in which the company has for many years been a major player. The main markets for Hawker monobloc batteries are mobility equipment, tow tractors and golf carts.
As well as bringing on stream a range of new and updated products, FMP has now opened a new 'Eurohub' logistics centre in Liege, Belgium, to streamline the timely supply of batteries to OEMs and dealers throughout Europe. FMP is also expanding its NetStore online ordering system which enables local depots and end-user customers to order products direct.
Chris Walsh, 38, had been Fiamm's Monobloc Sales Manager for four years, before EnerSys's takeover in the summer of 2005. Previously he held senior sales management posts with Industrial Battery Systems and Curtis Instruments.
He served an engineering apprenticeship with British Aerospace, where he rose to become a line manager before moving on to pursue a career in sales, which started with Modern Security Systems. Chris's qualifications include NEBSM (National Examining Board for Supervisory Management) Certificate and Diploma, and a DMM with UMIST and the Open University.
“Taking on pan-European responsibility for monobloc sales is a challenging proposition that comes at an exciting time in Fiamm's long history,” Chris reports. “With the considerable resources of the EnerSys organisation behind us, both FMP and Hawker are entering a phase of accelerated product and system development and the establishment of market-leading customer service. The FMP brand will now draw on the support of Hawker's service operation, which is today widely regarded as the best in the industry.
“The restructuring of FMP's logistic operation, in particular, will bring great improvements to our dealings with the European OEM, distributor and dealer markets, enabling us to offer a highly flexible and responsive service with very short lead times.”
