Catastrophic fire damage at Ernest Doe, Fyfield, Essex, required the expertise of the UK’s leading storage and materials handling specialists, SSI Schaefer.
The fire caused the complete loss of the showroom and parts department at such a critical time for Ernest Doe – the summer harvest period. As one of the UK’s foremost distributors of agricultural, construction and professional turf care machinery, it was crucial that Ernest Doe minimised the loss of business whilst building work took place.
Ernest Doe did not hesitate to contact long-term supplier SSI Schaefer to assess the destruction and provide recommendations for replacing the existing parts store shelving. Due to the on-going relationship that had built up, Ernest Doe were confident of Schaefer carrying out a complete redesign and install a new system.
By working closely with Colin Doe, Managing Director of Ernest Doe, the Facilities Manager, Alan Ringer and the architects, Graham Plester of SSI Schaefer was able to quickly provide a layout, manufacture and deliver materials within the timeframe set out.
The introduction of Regal 4000 two-tier shelving onto the site has resulted in immediate benefits to the running and efficiency of the parts operation. Branch Manager, Damian Williams of Ernest Doe commented: “The introduction of RK Containers has improved our stock location efficiency, enabling more parts to be stored in a smaller area.”
Regal 4000 two-tier with open mesh steel flooring, 500mm deep shelves with accessories – RK plastic containers and TRF adjustable dividers were installed in time for the re-opening of the showroom and parts store.
SSI Schaefer also provided shelving in another part of the building to assist with the storage of parts on a temporary basis. During the installation period Fyfield benefited from the close support of other Ernest Doe branches to allow the continuation of support to their new and existing customers.
