FKI Logistex underpins commitment to advancing sortation technology with next generation systems

New LS-4000 sorters offer layout flexibility, reduced operating costs and shorter installation and commissioning time. Strengthening its position in the advancement of sortation technology, FKI Logistex® – the leading global material handling solutions integrator – has launched its next-generation sorters.

The new LS-4000E tilt-tray and LS-4000CB cross-belt models offer a common platform designed to enhance system flexibility and incorporate a new, advanced, energy system, specially developed by FKI Logistex to significantly reduce operating costs.

“FKI Logistex leads the industry in sortation technology innovation,” says Jerry Woodhouse, Managing Director of the company's European Operations. “Our next-generation LS-4000 sorters increase handling and distribution efficiencies while decreasing product life cycle ownership costs (PLCC) without the need for expensive expansion of warehouse and distribution space or greenfield site construction.”

Incorporating an energy-efficient linear synchronous motor (LSM), the FKI Logistex LS-4000E and LS-4000CB reduce the overall PLCC substantially without sacrificing speed, capacity and reliability. The high-speed LSM eliminates contact between moving parts, providing ultra-low levels of wear-and-tear, and very low noise levels.

The compact footprint and modular design of the LS-4000E and LS-4000CB – featuring low sorter section height and up to six metres between supports -optimises the integration of the sorters into an existing facility. This space saving design provides valuable extra room above the sorter and on the floor, freeing up areas for sprinkler systems, conveyors, other sorters, storage containers and areas for personnel and vehicles to move through.

The LS-4000E and LS-4000CB sorters are constructed by FKI Logistex using the same optimised platform. This ensures fast, trouble-free installation and commissioning, as well as maximising reliability and availability. The versatile, modular design is based on standardised units, which integrate mechanical and electrical components fully tested and certified in-house prior to installation. The common design platform and extra space available between the supports also provides improved access for maintenance.

The new-generation LS-4000 sorters increase design versatility by providing full access to multiple floor levels. The sorters feature a frame incline of up to 10 degrees and track level changes up to seven-metres in both straight and curved sections.

The LS-4000E will sort single-tray items measuring up to one metre x one metre and weighing up to 50 kilograms, although it has functionality to sort larger items if required. The LS-4000CB cross-belt sorter provides precise positioning and gentle handling and excels at sorting high-friction and fragile items, enabling it to perform exceptionally well in overnight delivery and fulfillment applications.

An international network of FKI Logistex Customer Service and Support (CSS) facilities is fully geared to provide fast, efficient back-up during the entire lifetime of a sortation installation.

Ensuring optimal system performance, a 24/7 help desk delivers trouble-free access to on and off-site technical assistance, maintenance and training.

In terms of the people, finance, back-up systems and controls needed to complete an installation on time and on budget, FKI Logistex also operates as a full materials handling solution designer and total project integrator. This means the company can take full responsibility for specifying, installing and commissioning all FKI Logistex and third-party products and services involved in delivering a project.

Part of FKI plc, FKI Logistex is a leading global provider of automated material handling solutions, supplying customers with an integrated set of leading-edge technologies in high-speed sortation, robotic and conventional conveyor systems, palletizing, paperless pick products, AS/RS, controls, order fulfillment systems, RFID implementation, EDS integration, baggage handling systems, warehouse control systems, and total material handling automation.

The company provides material handling solutions for airports, postal facilities, parcel distribution, manufacturing operations, library automation and for warehouse and distribution facilities. With projects that include many of the world's largest and most advanced material handling operations, FKI Logistex has manufacturing, engineering and support facilities around the world.
