FTA and Freight by Water are pleased to announce they are staging a free one-day conference considering the opportunities and issues surrounding the use of short-sea freight services and evaluating the options to reduce transport costs.
The event is due to be held on 20th June 2013, at the Ocean Cruise Terminal, Southampton, and will address issues of national significance as well as focussing on the UK short sea connections to western France, Iberia and the Mediterranean.
Among the key-note speakers will be by Shadow Shipping Minister - Jim Fitzpatrick MP.
The 2015 Sulphur Directive is also to be discussed in detail, assessing its potential impact on services and costs.
Other speakers presenting at the event are to include the B9 Shipping, Brittany Ferries, Sollerta and the Freight Transport Association (FTA).
There will also be market briefings on the possibilities for water freight for containers and trucks and the experience of port-centric logistics by users - focussing on the limits and benefits.
The aims of the conference will be to provide information to potential users of water freight services as a complement to road-based services, and during the day current options available will be considered - looking at how these are likely to develop over the next few years.
The one-day conference is of particular relevance to shippers, hauliers, forwarders and all those involved in the short-sea water freight industry, and as it is a one-day free conference places are expected to be reserved quickly.
