Genie® is ready to tame new technologies with new built-in ‘Plug and Play’

Across Europe, The Middle East, Africa and Russia (EMEAR), the latest deliveries of a wide range of Genie® products are among the first in the industry to feature a factory-installed telematics connector. Designed to increase equipment security and optimize the performance of rental fleets, thanks to its eight-pin connector, this new Genie® Telematics Connector provides an easy-to-use interface between the electrical control system of Genie products and any third-party telematics modules currently available on the market.

“Our customers have many brands of equipment to manage and many different versions of telematics solutions. Our new telematics-ready aerial work platforms are unique in that they are the only products of their kind providing our customers the ability to manage their diverse fleets without being forced into a particular telematics solution,” says Matthew Skipworth, Genie Service Solutions Manager, Terex Aerial Work Platforms, EMEAR. “In addition to being compatible with our customers’ existing fleet management hardware, this system is also quick and simple to install on request to provide customers the benefit of rental-ready Genie® equipment, including Track and Trace and Smart ID Access Control Module options.”

The Genie® telematics-ready connector is currently available as standard EMEAR-wide on Genie® S™ telescopic booms, Z™ diesel articulating boom lifts, the Z™-40/23 narrow articulating boom lift, Runabouts™ and scissor lifts. By the end of 2015, all Genie aerial work platforms and telehandlers will also be telematics-ready.

GENIE® ACCESS CONTROL SYSTEM
The Genie Access Control System is the Genie telematics connector with a unit that will read Smart PAL Cards (Powered Access Licences) and can be programmed to require a PAL Card to operate the unit, which means assuring that only trained operators use mobile elevating work platforms (MEWPs) . Issued by the International Powered Access Federation (IPAF), the PAL Card is recognised worldwide across industries as proof of platform operator training to the highest standard. The Smart PAL Card enables the control of access to machines on site.

Today, thanks to this new Genie® Access Control System, Genie customers can now be sure that operators are trained to utilize Genie machines safely and access real-time fleet management information. Comprised of a TrackUnit™ Smart ID module that plugs into Genie telematics-ready products, this system combines the benefits of quick and easy installation with the ability to access both central fleet administration data and local machine operator ID controls in one self-contained unit.

ALSO AVAILABLE, GENIE® TRACK AND TRACE SYSTEM.
A Trackunit™ module is installed on Genie telematics-ready products to upload data to the server which can be accessed via the Trackunit™ Manager web portal on PC or the Trackunit™ Mobile Manager on a Smartphone or tablet. As a result, fleet managers and controllers benefit from the advantages of access to all mobile resources via the telematics system. Features include hour-meter reporting, location, machine utilization, breakdown, failure and security abilities such as geo-fencing, alarms by movement or input and remote machine disabling. Other functions are also available depending on existing fleet management hardware.
