Geodis Calberson and Sunrise Medical celebrate two decades of multi-modal supply chain partnership

Geodis Calberson provides international multi-modal solutions to Sunrise Medical in conjunction with Geodis Wilson’s air and ocean services.

Sunrise Medical – one of the world’s largest manufacturers of homecare and extended care products – has been making full use of Geodis Calberson’s international, multi-modal supply chain solutions for more than two decades.

Geodis Calberson, the UK division of global logistics solutions provider Geodis, manages all of Sunrise Medical’s European, overseas, logistics and UK next day pallet delivery services – in partnership with Geodis Wilson’s air and sea and Geodis Calberson’s road freight capabilities across the globe, providing manufacturer to end user transport solutions and handling 25,000 consignments for Sunrise Medical every year.

During the highly successful partnership, Geodis Calberson has designed a number of bespoke solutions to meet Sunrise Medical’s unique needs. In particular, it has developed safe-handling and security systems to protect Sunrise Medical’s goods in transit, as many are made to order. Geodis Calberson trains employees working for Sunrise Medical to implement stringent quality control procedures, which include specific training for drivers to ensure the correct manual handling of goods which include mobility products such as wheelchairs, lifting hoists, and living aids such as crutches and walkers.

Geodis Calberson manages all of Sunrise Medical’s domestic, European and Scandinavian road freight which originates from Sunrise Medical’s factory in Stourbridge in the West Midlands.

Geodis Calberson also handles imports from Sunrise Medical’s Spanish operation, and, through Geodis Wilson, all of Sunrise Medical’s inbound sea freight from plants in North America and the Far East, which is distributed by Geodis Calberson to Sunrise Medical sites across Europe.

Weekly air freight through Geodis Wilson also arrives in the UK for integration by Geodis Calberson, which reroutes it via its international road groupage services to Sunrise Medical’s European and Scandinavian bases.

Geodis is involved in servicing Sunrise Medical’s European distribution centres in all major countries on the continent, managing the clearance and distribution of inbound goods from all over the world to hospitals, wholesalers and retailers.

In line with Geodis Calberson’s commitment to providing the best customer service in the logistics industry, the company holds monthly quality meetings at Sunrise Medical offices to appraise Geodis Calberson’s operational performance and identify cost saving and improvement opportunities. Dedicated account managers work proactively with Sunrise Medical to ensure total quality and responsiveness to customer requirements.
