A full order book and a commitment to safety has led to Bradford-based Moortown investing £60,000 in Hill Engineering’s innovative Tefra quick coupler range as it expands its excavator fleet throughout 2011.
Moortown, a leading groundworks, concrete and drainage specialist, is currently undertaking work on projects throughout South Yorkshire, including the construction of Pinderfield Hospital in Wakefield, where Balfour Beatty is the main contractor.
After the purchase of couplers from various manufacturers that did not deliver the operating quality required, Moortown approached County Down-based Hill Engineering to obtain a Tefra – a coupler with dual safety features that are unique within the attachment industry. Hill quickly provided a Tefra for Moortown to put through their testing and evaluation programme.
Pat Stapleton, plant manager for the Moortown Group said: "This is the first time we have worked with Hill Engineering and we have been very impressed by their approach to safety as it is at the heart of everything they do.
"The design of the Tefra is simple but highly effective, which was why it appealed to our operatives throughout vigorous testing. The team found the usability of the product ahead of anything on the market. For us, safety is of paramount importance, so having a product like Tefra, which eliminates the most dangerous aspect of handling – the risk of the attachment coming away completely – gives us peace of mind that our staff and our clients are using the safest quick coupler currently available.
"We are expanding our business quickly and have seen a sharp growth in order and contract wins. The new machines we have recently purchased and the ones we are awaiting delivery for in October will all specify the Tefra quick coupler as we have been so impressed with the product."
The Tefra is regarded as the single most significant progression in coupler safety over the last ten years. It is a fully automatic, twin locking pin grabber coupler, with a patented and unique secondary locking system, the Hill APS. Together, the unique primary and secondary locking systems act continually to ensure that the attachment cannot be released accidentally. A further unique feature, the Hill Smart Valve, ensures that the coupler must always be in a safe and visible position before the operating process can be commenced.
Moortown will be fitting Tefra to Kubota, Volvo and New Holland excavators ranging from 8tonne to 38tonne, making these machines compliant with forthcoming safety legislation.
Ian Hill, managing director of Hill Engineering said: "We’re delighted to be forging this new relationship with Moortown and working with them as the company develops. Both companies have the same principles when it comes to safety – nothing is more important than a safe working environment."
