HaulTech moves to enhance data security with off-site storage

Transport and logistics software specialist, HaulTech, has teamed up with Keele-based internet service provider, Internet Central, to further enhance the security of its clients’ on-line data as used in conjunction with HaulTech’s Trakman GPS tracking and telematics software.

With almost two decades’ experience in the development of cutting edge transport and logistics software, HaulTech boasts numerous clients of various sizes, all of which require optimum reliability when it comes to the security and availability of their on-line data. Geoff Brook, managing director, explains: "Even though we have never had any significant problems with our data hosting, we need to ensure that everything is kept running smoothly, 24 hours a day, seven days a week so that our clients’ drivers and their vehicles are kept moving with optimum efficiency.

"In order to give that extra level of security and additional peace of mind, we have now taken the decision to upgrade our data hosting arrangements. Following thorough research into all the available options, we have decided to work with Internet Central and transfer our data to a dedicated Virtual Private Server (VPS)."

A critical element of the VPS solution is resilience. Internet Central has multiple data centres and VPSs are housed in a state-of-the-art facility in Manchester. Multiple interconnects and transmission methods are provided through many different ‘tier 1’ carriers specifically selected to have sufficiently different networks and transmission structures as to avoid common points of failure and ensure maximum availability of services.

HaulTech boasts two market-leading tracking and planning products in TrakMan and HaulTech Traffic and with TrakMan relying on a constant stream of data to maintain its operational effectiveness, the company needed to ensure that its ever-increasing customer base had enhanced security. With this new partnership, that is now the case: "A VPS is a highly-scalable, autonomous machine hosted on a remote high capacity high-availability server designed for 100% uptime. These new arrangements offer enhanced service and absolute peace of mind both for us and our clients as all of our critical data is now hosted on a highly robust VPS system housed within a state-of-the-art facility," says Geoff.

"This significant move comes after another increase in our client base and we recognised that our own systems, no matter how robust, could never offer what is effectively the triple-layer of security provided by a secure VPS."

Thanks to the intuitive professionalism of its team, HaulTech has over the years, developed industry recognised systems that optimise traffic office operations, reduce administration and fuel costs and ensure industry compliance so as to maximise revenue and profitability. Geoff concludes: "With so many of the HaulTech team being experienced transport professionals, we understand the nuances of running a transport business.

"As associated costs continue to spiral, we have an acute understanding of how important it is to give our clients not only the very best products but also, the very best back-up possible. This move has gone a long way towards achieving that and we are delighted to now be working with Internet Central to give our clients the very highest levels of security available."
