Height safety solutions show its metal at Rio Tinto Alcan

Height Safety Solutions - a specialist division of leading lifting services provider Loughborough-based Morris Material Handling - is in the process of installing a turnkey working at height safety solution at the Lochaber/Kinlochleven facility of Rio Tinto Alcan in Scotland.

Representing the largest bespoke contract Height Safety Solutions has undertaken to date, this latest project follows the successful installation of a similar system at Rio Tinto Alcan's Lynemouth smelter in Northumberland.

Installed both internally and externally across the Lochaber facility - responsible for AP (Aluminium Pechiney) technology and engineering and primary aluminium production – the Height Safety Solutions' system has been designed in conjunction with contract partners, Safety at Height and Sperian Protection. Indeed it is a system that incorporates MultiRail and Xenon horizontal lifeline with the Glideloc vertical safe climbing/fall arrest systems. Incorporating cable, horizontal rail and folding ladder system technologies, Height Safety Solutions is also supplying additional PPE attachment shuttles.

With work on phase one of the installation already complete, the entire working at height safety solution is on schedule to be fully commissioned by mid-2008. Commenting on behalf of Rio Tinto Alcan, Safety, Training and Communications Officer, Ewan Stewart said: "Protecting both employees and subcontractors from the potential dangers associated with working at height is of paramount importance to a company such as Rio Tinto Alcan and the new system that we are installing bears testimony to this fact. We enjoy a good working relationship with Morris Material Handling and we are extremely impressed with their approach to the design and implementation of our turnkey solution in Lochaber."

Height Safety Solutions forms part of the Morris Maintenance Services operation and specialises in the design, implementation, installation and management of complete solutions for working at height, and across all industry sectors.
